It is the mark of a truly intelligent person to be moved by statistics

- George Bernard Shaw

GCSE Statistics encourages Whitecross students to collect, analyse and interpret data from the world around them.

The course enables students to acquire and develop a range of skills to identify trends and draw conclusions from a range of data points. Students use practical investigations to develop their personal critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

This means that:

  • The course uses authentic contexts to show how statistics is applied in subjects like Biology, Geography, Economics, and Business, as well as in everyday life.
  • GCSE statistics includes a more in-depth look at topics also found in GCSE Maths, such as averages (mean, median, mode), different types of statistical diagrams (bar charts, pie charts, histograms), and probability.
  • The course focusses specifically on the practical application of statistical methods in real-world scenarios and encourages a more critical approach to data
  • Students plan, collect, analyse and interpret their own and other’s data.
  • Students identify data trends through carrying out appropriate calculations and data visualisation techniques.
